Zendaya’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour has been filled with web references, but thanks to a behind-the-scenes video shared by School of Style, we now have a closer look at what might be the most literal interpretation yet.

The actress wore a black chiffon Rodarte dress featuring a crystal spiderweb motif stretched across the bodice, complete with a bejewelled spider sitting at its centre. If there was any doubt that Law Roach was committed to the theme, this look put it to rest.

Rodarte’s design already possesses the same gothic romanticism Zendaya tapped into with her McQueen look the day before, but this takes the concept to its natural conclusion. Throughout this press tour, the references have become increasingly direct, and this is the moment where subtlety is abandoned altogether.

It works because if feels like the tour has been slowly building towards a moment like this. Rather than feeling random, it feels like the next chapter in a carefully plotted fashion narrative from Law Roach.

The original Fall 2020 runway look was considerably sheer, so Zendaya’s decision to layer the dress over tailored black trousers was a smart adjustment. Beyond providing extra coverage, the trousers give the look a sharper, more contemporary edge and prevent the sheer skirt from becoming the entire conversation.

The styling remained consistent with what we’ve seen throughout this press tour. Her Stéfère web-inspired earrings made another appearance, while black Christian Louboutin So Kate pumps completed the look.

At this point, the question is no longer whether Zendaya will reference Spider-Man through fashion, but how far she is willing to take the concept. With a crystal spider sitting directly on the bodice, do we have the answer?
